The 737-800 is an extension of the fuselage of the -700, and also the direct replacement for the 400 Series. Added to Boeing also has discontinued models McDonnell Douglas MD-80 and MD-90 respectively after the company was absorbed by Boeing. The -800 was launched by Hapag-Lloyd Flug (now TUIfly) in 1994, entering service in 1998. The 737-800 can accommodate 162 passengers when configured to 2 classes or 189 passengers in a single class, also competes with the A320.
It offers an executive version of it, the 737-BBJ2 and 800ERX (Extended Range Model, for its acronym in English), is available as a military variant. For many airlines in the United States, the -800 has been used as a replacement for the old tri Boeing 727-200.
