Smoking One Cigarette A Day

Delayed STS-119 mission

The launch of Discovery was scheduled for February 12 has been delayed twice, first for 19 and later to Feb. 22 so that there are only four days to drain the launch window for the mission.

FCVs The problem are the essential components of the main propulsion system of the shuttle. The valves FCVs are responsible for maintaining the pressure of the liquid hydrogen tank between 32 and 34 libras/pulgada2 (psi) during the period of operation of main engines allowing or preventing the passage of hydrogen gas. When the tank pressure drops to 32 psi, the valve opens and allows the passage of hydrogen gas pressure restored. On the other hand, when the pressure rises 33 psi, the valve closes preventing the passage of hydrogen gas in order that the pressure decay.

On February 13 a meeting is scheduled in which decisions will be made safe.
